The Naval Surface Warfare Center awards $4.3 million IDIQ contract to Ultra Electronics Measurement Systems Inc.WALLINGFORD, CT, September 22, 2011 Ultra Electronics Measurement Systems Inc. (MSI) received a $4.3 Million contract from the Naval Surface Warfare Center for its Freedom of Movement Control Unit, FMCU, in support of the Ground Based Operational Surveillance System, G-BOSS. G-BOSS is a Naval Sea Systems Command program providing integrated "beyond the fence" surveillance capability for the Marines with 3 variants including two vehicular towed trailers with Ground Control Station functionality and one variant as a fully portable tri-pod system. The FMCU from MSI is a "game-style" fully ruggedized operator control unit ideal for control of payloads and unmanned systems. With an available modular LCD, the FMCU provided the functionality and performance that NWSC required in support of G-BOSS. " The FMCU was successfully qualified for use on the program and addressed usability and/or environmental issues the Marines encountered with hand controls from two other manufacturers. The game-style, hand-held control solution from MSI will be used to control the sensor suite which includes a Star SAFIRE IIIFP camera, a ThermoVision 3000 camera with GPS, and a Man-portable Surveillance and Target Acquisition Radar. G-BOSS provides defensive capability as a Force Protection asset for Forward Operating Bases, Command Outposts, Battle Positions and Entry Control points; as well as offensive capability in the form of expeditionary situational awareness. The portability and flexibility of MSI's FMCU ideally suited the requirements of this new platform and has led to the largest order MSI has received for the FMCU to date.
