Ultra MSI Awarded the FCU for the FLIR LEADIR Program

September 26, 2003: Ultra MSI has been chosen and has been awarded funds to develop the Functional Control Unit (FCU) ambidextrous hand control for the FLIR LEADIR Special Operations Aircraft program. Ultra MSI was chosen from several suppliers in a competitive bid process on the basis of price, delivery and technical expertise.

The FCU will be used to control the multi-sensor thermal imaging system on the US Army Special Operations A/MH-6 “Little Bird” helicopters. The control will allow both the pilot and the co-pilot to control the camera and laser range finding functions from one station in the cockpit. Ultra MSI is working closely with both FLIR and the Army Special Forces to develop the control.

The contract calls for prototypes to be developed and delivered by the 1st Q of ’04 with production beginning in the 2nd Q of the year. Once again Ultra MSI has demonstrated its position as a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of human machine interface controls across a broad spectrum of military and commercial applications.
