First Round of NLOS-C Fired by United Defense Industries, Inc.

September 8, 2003: United Defense Industries, Inc. announced that it has successfully fired the first round from its Non-Line of Sight Cannon (NLOS-C). This fully automated 155mm self-propelled howitzer demonstrator was taken from design to first round firing in six months.

The NLOS-C demonstrator contract was awarded to United Defense as the first part of a Congressional mandate to field a self-propelled NLOS-C by 2008. This program was developed to update current artillery capabilities as well as preserve the advanced technologies developed during the cancelled Crusader program. The United Defense demonstrator was the first step in the design and development of NLOS-C prototypes during the System Development and Demonstration Phase of the Future Combat System (FCS) Program.

Ultra MSI is proud to have partnered with United Defense since the inception of the program. Ultra MSI's advanced technology is successfully being used to drive the vehicle as well as control the cannon. Ultra MSI has developed proprietary technology to satisfy United Defense's strict requirements for this revolutionary artillery system. Ultra MSI worked closely with United Defense's engineers to rapid prototype and qualify the system in record time. Ultra MSI is the leading human machine interface control supplier to the Future Combat System Program.
