Ultra Electronics MSI Sponsors Staples High School in 2009 FTC World Robotics Championship

WALLINGFORD, CT, June 30, 2009 – The Wreckers robotics team of Staples High School in Westport, CT advanced to the prestigious 2009 FTC World Robotics Championship last month after winning regional titles in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York City. Upon hearing of the advancement of this local Connecticut team, Ultra MSI, a Wallingford manufacturer of advanced control systems, supported the Wrecker’s bid to win this global competition through a donation of funds, shirts and hats.

Despite facing fierce competition in the Georgia Dome from more than 100,000 kids from 50 countries comprising 1200 teams, and from teams sponsored by the likes of NASA, JPL and MIT, the Wreckers achieved a hard fought Silver Medal finish after two days of rigorous events.

“It was a great day for the students at Staples,” says Ultra MSI President, Ken Tasch. “I can’t begin to tell you how proud we are of their accomplishment… of the dedication and capabilities exhibited by The Wreckers, especially considering the team was formed just two years ago. It is an honor being associated with these terrific young people.”

The Wreckers team members who participated in the Atlanta World Championships are Haris Durrani, Jehangir Hafiz, Todd Lubin, Eric Lubin, and Timothy Yang.

Dr. Amish Mehta, VP of Engineering at Ultra MSI: “At Ultra MSI, we believe in fostering the interests and education of our next generation technology leaders. We are proud to be associated with the Wreckers Team and look forward to getting involved in the years to come.”
